Job Description Summary: One of the key engineers on a team building and offering a secure, scalable & modern API development platform for PayPal engineers

Job Description:

The API Platform team is responsible for the API development experience at PayPal, as part of a larger Developer Productivity Engineering organization. Working closely with Architecture, Cyber Security & Product Development stakeholders, we aim to offer a secure, scalable & modern API platform, that provides delightful API development experiences for PayPal engineers, enabling outstanding customer experiences and business outcomes.

  • API development directly or indirectly contributes to most business outcomes at PayPal. As part of the API Platform team, you will be responsible for envisioning, building, and providing exceptional API development experiences in all phases of the SDLC

  • This work will also enable PayPal API consumption by many external developers using PayPal API’s via a partnership with the team supporting https://developer.paypal.com

Your day-to-day

  • You will be part of a team of up to 10 engineers working in an Agile SCRUM model

  • You will provide technical solutions for defined functional objectives

  • You will help envision, implement, and support multiple components of a modern API Platform

  • You will provide tools and integrations into SDLC processes

  • You will follow rigorous engineering practices, and deliver quality software

  • You will provide high quality software documentation that enables other engineers, and support our API product offerings

  • You will work collaboratively with peers and stakeholders including architects, security & product development engineers

  • Invest in your own and your peer’s career growth by enhancing technical and soft skills on an ongoing basis

What you need to bring

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Computer Science or a related field or commensurate professional experience

  • 3+ years of experience building successful production software systems

  • Demonstrated experience building and supporting distributed systems with high scalability, availability & reliability

  • Highly proficient with software development tools & software engineering best practices

  • Prior experience working as part of a high caliber engineering team in an Agile SCRUM Model

  • High level competency in at least one modern programming language (Java, JavaScript, Golang). Proficiency in multiple languages will be a benefit

  • Prior work or familiarity with the modern API development ecosystem for REST, GraphQL etc. is preferred but not a must have

  • Understanding of build pipelines- CI/CD is preferred but not a must have.

  • Familiarity/awareness of Public Cloud capabilities in related areas

  • Ability to channel own experience and/or connect with top developers to identify and reflect preferred developer experiences

  • Good team player, able to effectively work across multiple teams on solutions that have complex dependencies and requirements in a fast-paced environment
